Gamescom 2019 – G+B inspires with technical staging

Under the motto “The Heart of Gaming”, Gamescom 2019 once again brought gaming enthusiasts from all over the world together in Cologne this year. With numerous events, shows and game highlights, the world’s largest trade fair for the computer and video games industry once again generated enthusiasm among gamers and once again broke all visitor records. Around 373,000 visitors, including 31,300 trade visitors, were also thrilled by impressive event technology from the event service provider GAHRENS + BATTERMANN at the gaming trade fair in 2019.

Overview of the project:

Square Enix – 2000 sqm fantasy and game action

This year, the G+B team was responsible for the technical equipment and support of the Square Enix booth on behalf of the agency New Line Brand Communication from Berlin. On more than 2000 m² the Japanese manufacturer presented new game highlights, which were technically staged by GAHRENS + BATTERMANN. Visual highlights were the five LED walls on which live gaming sessions were broadcasted and game trailers were shown. For perfect sound throughout the entire booth, the event specialists installed more than 70 loudspeakers. With more than 380 spotlights and a sophisticated lighting concept, the G+B team created a special atmosphere that immersed visitors to the fair in a fantasy world. The entire light and sound installation as well as the elaborate rigging – a total of approx. 55 tons of ceiling load – offered the gaming enthusiasts an impressive backdrop from the very first glance at the exhibitor area. To control all the technology installed on the stand, the event professionals set up a DANTE network in which the various areas of the stand could be operated from two control room positions. To this end, kilometers of signal and power cables were laid in the two weeks of construction in the run-up to Gamescom.

“It is always something very special to lead a project, which is planned and accompanied over four months, to its implementation. Despite intensive pre-planning, it is a matter of course for us, especially with such a big job, to act absolutely flexible until the last day before the trade fair and beyond, in order to meet the high quality customer requirements and to inspire the whole team. From a technical point of view, it was above all the complex rigging and the control of all devices – from media servers and LED controllers to dimmers and power amplifiers via network – that were the exciting challenges of the stand. With a very young and motivated team, we succeeded in implementing a completely smooth setup and dismantling and put on a great show during the trade fair, which more than lived up to the quality of the products and games presented. Satisfied we look back on an almost perfect production”.

Pure excitement at the final of Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Wins German National

Parallel to Gamesom, the game developer and publisher Ubisoft organized the final of the Rainbow Six Siege German National on August 22 and 23 at The New Yorker | Dock. One in Cologne. On two days, the four finalist teams competed against each other and guaranteed a great atmosphere and a lot of excitement at the event. As an experienced event service provider, GAHRENS + BATTERMANN, on behalf of NEW LINE Brand Communication, ensured both the smooth running of the finals and the appropriate staging of the gaming event. The signals of the 10 gaming computers and 16 camera signals were transmitted on three LED walls, so that the visitors could watch the gaming spectacle live and in impressive quality. For the fans of the Ubisoft game, the event was captured with several cameras and transmitted in a live stream. This enabled them to follow the offline final online in the livestream. A harmonious lighting concept and a perfect sound rounded off the exciting atmosphere in the location and the successful performance of the G+B team.

“We are proud to have been commissioned by NEW LINE Brand Communication to help implement the final of the Rainbow Six Siege German National. Although the e-sports sector is constantly growing, such jobs are still relatively new and all the more exciting for us. That’s why we are especially pleased that we were able to inspire both the guests on site and our customer with our commitment, which is demonstrated by the fact that our G+B team will also be responsible for the realization of the final of the Rainbow Six Tournament in Switzerland”.
